Carbon steel, also called plain carbon steel, is a metal alloy, which primarily consists of iron and carbon. Besides these two elements, it also consists of other alloying elements like manganese, silicon, and copper in quantities almost negligible.
Available in various compositions, our range of products have an impeccable track record in the market. While our products are extensively used for various industrial applications, it is particularly used in boilers and heat exchangers.
Following are the typical compositions of carbon steel: Mild Carbon Steel (Low Carbon): It contains approximately 0.05-0.15% carbon content for low carbon steel and 0.16-0.29% carbon content for mild steel. Mild steel has a relatively low tensile strength, but it is cheap and malleable; surface hardness can be increased through carburizing.
Medium Carbon Steel: Carbon content is approximately 0.30-0.59%. Balances ductility and strength, has good wear resistance; used for large parts, forging and automotive components.
High Carbon Steel: Carbon content is approximately 0.6-0.99%. Very strong, used for springs and high-strength wires.
Ultra-High Carbon Steel: It has approximately 1.0-2.0% carbon content. Extensively used in nonindustrial applications like knives, axes or punches.
